Meijer LPGA Classic  for Simply Give

Committee Descriptions

 

Admissions/Will Call

Responsibilities include selling tickets, distributing “Will Call” tickets, scanning tickets for entry, assisting spectators with special needs, answering questions regarding directions, pairings, and any other tournament related information. Shift assignments are on-site.

Shift Schedules: Tuesday – Sunday.

Ambassadors

Responsibilities include greeting spectators and distributing program guides, pairing sheets, course maps, and other items; answering questions regarding directions, pairings, and any other tournament related information. Ambassadors will be centrally located on the course.

Shift Schedules: Tuesday – Sunday.

* Must be able to stand for extended periods of time outside and have a positive, friendly attitude at all times when interacting with spectators.

Caddie Barn

Responsibilities include assisting with caddie registration, distributing and collecting caddie bibs, organizing nameplates, managing and maintaining caddies’ hospitality area, and assisting the professional caddies throughout the tournament.

Shift Schedules: Monday – Sunday.

Carts & Shuttles

Responsibilities include distributing golf carts to authorized volunteers and tournament staff, shuttling volunteers to and from their course location, providing shuttle service for designated spectators, and charging vehicles at the end of the day.

Shift Schedules: Monday – Sunday.

* Must be knowledgeable in golf etiquette and able to operate a golf cart.

Driving Range

Responsibilities include distributing range balls and placing the appropriate player’s nameplate in front of her practice tee box. Shift assignments at on-site and/or off-site driving range locations.

Shift Schedules: Monday – Sunday.

* Must be able to bend or stand for extended periods of time, and have a positive, friendly attitude when interacting with players.

Floating/Roaming Marshal Pool

Responsibilities include assisting other marshals both on and off course, as needed.

Shift Schedules: Wednesday – Sunday.

* Must be knowledgeable in golf etiquette, be able to walk to and from assignments, have adequate vision and hearing, and be able to stand for extended periods of time. Feel free to bring a small chair to use during down times.

**Committee specific training will be provided prior to the event.

Grand Taste

The Meijer LPGA Grand Taste is a three-day food event hosted by Meijer in conjunction with the Meijer LPGA Classic at Blythefield Country Club. It will be held during tournament rounds, Friday – Sunday, offering fans who have purchased an upgraded ticket a complimentary food and beverage experience that represents the best of West Michigan and Meijer. Responsibilities include guest check-in, selling tickets, distributing wristbands, assisting guests with special needs, and answering questions regarding directions, pairings, and any other tournament related information.  Volunteers may also assist vendors with serving samples, loading and unloading of vendor supplies, and any other responsibilities that may arise.

Shift Schedules:  Friday – Sunday.

Hole Marshals

Responsibilities include ensuring fair play among all participants and the safety of all spectators. Marshals are stationed on each tee and green, landing areas, and player crossovers.

Shift Schedules: Wednesday – Sunday.

* Must be knowledgeable in golf etiquette, be able to walk to and from hole location assignments, have adequate vision and hearing, and be able to stand for extended periods of time. Feel free to bring a small chair to use during down times.

**Committee specific training will be provided prior to the event.

Hospitality

Responsibilities include welcoming sponsors and other guests as they enter their designated hospitality suite, ensuring guests entering hospitality suites have proper credentials; distributing wristbands, program guides, and pairing sheets, answering questions regarding directions, pairings, and any other tournament related information, controlling spectator conversation and movement, and ensuring players are not disturbed during play.

Shift Schedules: Thursday – Sunday

* Must be able to stand for extended periods of time outside.

Media

Responsibilities include assisting Tournament Staff with general operations of the Media Center and promotion of the tournament, checking in members of the media, assisting with clipping articles and interviews, and other duties as assigned by the Tournament Staff.

Shift Schedules: Tuesday – Sunday

Player Services

Responsibilities include player registration, preparing and distributing player information packets and other items, distributing player mail and packages, answering various player requests, and assisting with locker room maintenance. Volunteers may also assist with player locker room set up.

Shift Schedules: Monday – Sunday

* Women ONLY committee.

Pro-Am Administration

Responsibilities include assisting Tournament Staff with amateur registration and bag drop, staff gift area, and assembling/distributing gift bags, and other responsibilities that may arise. Will be assigned to second committee in order to complete the minimum number of volunteer shifts.

Shift Schedules: Tuesday – Wednesday

Pro-Am Operations

Assisting groups participating in the Pro-Am, including driving carts, caddie, and various other related duties. Will be assigned to second committee in order to complete the minimum number of volunteer shifts.

Shift Schedules: Tuesday – Wednesday

*Must be knowledgeable in golf etiquette, able to operate a golf cart, and able to lift heavy objects.

Scoring Central

Responsibilities include obtaining scores via radio from walking scorers and entering player names & scores into leaderboard computer. The Tournament Staff will provide a dual copier/fax to assist with making these duties more efficient.

Shift Schedules: Wednesday – Sunday

* Must have substantial golf knowledge and basic computer skills.

Scoring Tents

Stationed in the scoring tent at the 1st and 10th holes; will obtain signed scorecards from players after they have completed their round.

Shift Schedules: Thursday – Sunday

Standard Bearers

Responsibilities include carrying a 4’ standard (sign) inside the ropes for an entire round and updating the standard with each player’s score after finishing each hole. A holster is provided to rest the standard in while walking the course.

Standard bearers are not allowed to use any electronic devices, including cell phones or iPods.

Volunteers must be at least 13 years old. Physically demanding.

Shift Schedules: Thursday – Sunday

* Must have knowledge of golf etiquette and have endurance and strength to walk 18 holes while carrying a standard.

**Committee specific training will be provided prior to the event.

Supply Distribution

Responsibilities include distributing and replenishing product such as water, soda, and snacks throughout the course and clubhouse as needed. Physically demanding.

Shift Schedules: Monday – Sunday

* Must be knowledgeable in golf etiquette, able to lift heavy objects, and able to operate a golf cart.

Television

Assisting the television network staff in the production of the tournament telecast.  Substantial golf knowledge is required; physically demanding.  Television volunteer assignments include 10 spotters, 3 cart drivers and 4 camera assistants.

Note: Volunteers should be willing to commit to Thursday through Sunday afternoon shifts, generally beginning at 12:30 PM, to support the Golf Channel’s televised schedule. Training will be held before the first shift on Thursday afternoon.

Tournament Office

Responsibilities include assisting the Tournament Staff with general office duties, projects, and errands; answering phones, receiving and logging tournament packages.

Shift schedule begins the Wednesday before tournament week and runs through the end of the Tournament.

* Must have basic computer skills.

Transportation

Responsibilities include transporting players, staff, and VIPs to various locations (including hotel, airport, and private housing) and other errands as needed in courtesy vehicles provided by the tournament.

Shift Schedules – Sunday before tournament through Monday after tournament.

* Must be 25 years of age, provide a copy of your valid driver’s license, complete required driver information during volunteer registration, and be familiar with the roads and landmarks of the Grand Rapids area.

**Transportation volunteers may also be needed on the Saturday and Sunday before the Tournament and Monday after the Tournament.

Volunteer Services

Responsibilities include daily volunteer check-in, radio distribution, answering volunteer questions, and maintaining a comfortable central location for volunteers. Volunteers may be needed prior to tournament week to distribute uniforms to all volunteers.  

Shift Schedules: Sunday – Sunday and Volunteer Uniform Distribution (time tbd).

Walking Scorers

Responsibilities include marking each stroke, score, and statistic on a wireless handheld palm device for each player in their assigned group, reporting scores at the end of each hole to scoring central, and keeping standard bearers updated with current scores.

Shifts are randomly assigned.  Physically demanding.

Shift Schedules: Wednesday – Sunday

* Must be knowledgeable of golf etiquette, have fundamental knowledge of golf terms, and be able to walk 18 holes.

**Committee specific training will be provided prior to the event.

 

WEATHER:The Meijer LPGA Classic has had perfect weather the past three years, but in the event of thunderstorms, lightning, and/or other severe weather during regular play (Thursday – Sunday), the tournament could be delayed a day. To support a potential delay, we ask our volunteers to remain available, if possible, on Monday, June 19th.
